The model is brilliant in short bursts, but it forgets things between sessions, burns through context windows on real codebases, jumps straight to writing code when you wanted a plan, and tends to ship interfaces that look like every other AI-built landing page on the internet.

That's where Skills come in.

Anthropic launched the Skills system in October 2025 and made the spec an open standard in December. A Skill is just a folder with a
SKILL.md
file inside — a small instruction sheet that teaches Claude how to handle a specific task. The clever bit is progressive disclosure: only 30 to 50 tokens of metadata load until Claude actually needs the skill, so you can stack dozens of them without bloating your context window.

Since launch, the ecosystem has exploded. Some skills come from Anthropic directly. Others come from independent developers solving problems they hit while shipping production code. After spending the last few months testing dozens of them, here are the five we keep coming back to.

1. Superpowers — the discipline layer

Built by: Jesse Vincent (obra) and the team at Prime Radiant Installs: 476,000+ on the official Anthropic marketplace

If Claude Code feels like a fast junior developer who skips the planning step, Superpowers is the senior engineer who makes it slow down.

It's not really one skill, it's fourteen of them working together as a methodology. The headline ones force Claude to brainstorm before it writes any code, break the work into 2-to-5 minute tasks, follow strict TDD (failing test first, implementation second), and debug systematically instead of guessing.

What makes it work is the writing style of the SKILL.md files themselves. Each one opens with what Jesse calls an "Iron Law" — a non-negotiable rule — followed by a list of the rationalizations Claude will try to use to skip it. If the model attempts to write the implementation before the test, the skill catches it and resets.

Install:

/plugin marketplace add obra/superpowers-marketplace
/plugin install superpowers@superpowers-marketplace

Honest caveat: Superpowers adds 10 to 20 minutes of upfront brainstorming and planning per task. For one-shot scripts, that's overkill. One controlled experiment found a 14% token reduction with mixed quality wins, so it's not a magic 10x. For anything you'd actually merge to main, though, the discipline pays for itself.

2. skill-creator — the meta skill

Built by: Anthropic (official) Installs: 176,000+

Here's a problem you don't notice until you've written your third skill: skills break silently. A SKILL.md that worked perfectly on Tuesday starts producing nonsense on Thursday after a model update, and you have no way to know unless someone complains.

skill-creator is Anthropic's answer. It's a meta-skill that helps you build, evaluate, A/B test, and benchmark other skills with real metrics — pass rates, token counts, time to completion — instead of vibes.

It runs in four modes. Create walks you through writing a new skill from scratch. Eval runs the skill against test prompts and grades the output. Improve does blind A/B comparisons between two versions and analyzes what changed. Benchmark runs the eval N times and gives you mean and standard deviation across configurations.

The thing that tells you Anthropic has been eating their own dog food is a single line buried in the source: it explicitly tells skill authors to make their descriptions "a little bit pushy" because Claude has a tendency to underuse skills when they'd actually be helpful. That kind of self-aware design is rare.

Install:

/plugin marketplace add anthropics/skills
/plugin install example-skills@anthropic-agent-skills

Honest caveat: There's a learning curve if you've never written test assertions before. The benchmark output expects exact field names in your
grading.json
, and the workflow is opinionated about how grading should work. It's also genuinely useful only if you're writing skills, not just consuming them.

3. context-mode — the token saver

Built by: Mert Köseoğlu (mksglu) Adoption: 103,000+ users across 14 platforms, 12,000+ GitHub stars

Every developer who runs Claude Code on a real codebase hits the same wall around the 30-minute mark. The context window starts filling up with raw tool output — git logs, test results, fetched web pages — and the model gets slow, forgetful, and expensive.

context-mode sits between Claude and its tools and sandboxes everything before it touches the conversation. A 56 KB Playwright snapshot becomes 299 bytes. A 500-row analytics CSV becomes 222 bytes. A 153-commit git log becomes 107 bytes. Errors and stack traces are kept verbatim, but passing tests, progress bars, and ANSI noise get collapsed.

Under the hood it's a local SQLite FTS5 database with hybrid BM25, trigram, and RRF fusion search. No external API calls, no extra latency, no compression tokens added to your bill. The 3-stage pipeline understands the output format of jest, pytest, git log, cargo build, and several other tools, so it knows what to summarize and what to keep word-for-word.

Install:

/plugin marketplace add mksglu/claude-context-mode
/plugin install context-mode@claude-context-mode

Honest caveat: The "98% reduction" headline is measured in bytes, not tokens, so the real reduction in your context window is a bit smaller. The license also switched from MIT to Elastic License 2.0 in early 2026 — fine for normal use, but it rules out reselling it as a hosted service. Hook reliability has had occasional bugs on Cursor and Codex CLI.

4. claude-mem — the memory layer

Built by: Alex Newman (thedotmack) Adoption: 65,000+ GitHub stars, 244+ releases

Every Claude Code session starts cold. The model doesn't remember what you debugged yesterday, which architecture decision you locked in last week, or that you've already tried the obvious fix three times. claude-mem fixes that.

The plugin attaches to five lifecycle hooks — SessionStart, UserPromptSubmit, PostToolUse, Stop, and SessionEnd — and quietly captures observations about what Claude is doing. Those observations get compressed by Claude itself (using the agent SDK) and stored in a local SQLite plus Chroma vector database. Next time you start a session in the same project, relevant memory gets injected automatically.

The clever bit is the 3-layer retrieval system. Instead of dumping every memory into context, it offers a cheap search index first (50 to 100 tokens per result), a timeline view second, and full observation details only for the IDs you actually want. There's even a tool literally named
__IMPORTANT
whose only job is to remind Claude to use the cheap layers first — without it, the model defaults to fetching everything at full detail and the savings disappear.

Install:

/plugin marketplace add thedotmack/claude-mem
/plugin install claude-mem

Honest caveat: A community security audit in February 2026 rated claude-mem as HIGH risk because the local worker runs an unauthenticated HTTP API on port 37777. If your machine is misconfigured on a network, that API is exposed. Use the
<private>
tags to keep API keys and credentials out of the capture, and don't run it on a shared dev box without thinking about the threat model.

5. frontend-design — the anti-AI-slop skill

Built by: Anthropic Applied AI team (Prithvi Rajasekaran, Alexander Bricken, Justin Wei) Installs: 564,000+ — the most-installed skill on the official marketplace

You can spot an AI-built landing page in two seconds. Inter font. Purple gradient on white. Centered hero with a pill-shaped CTA. Three feature cards with rounded corners and emoji icons. The aesthetic isn't bad, it's just everywhere.

Anthropic calls this "distributional convergence." Without explicit direction, Claude samples from the statistical center of its training data, which happens to be the same safe design choices every other AI is also reproducing.

frontend-design is a 42-line instruction file that tells Claude to do the opposite. It explicitly forbids generic font stacks, calls out the purple-gradient cliché by name, and pushes the model to commit to a bold, specific aesthetic direction before writing any code — brutalist, editorial, retro-futuristic, art deco, organic, whatever fits the project.

The result is interfaces that look like a senior designer reviewed them. Not necessarily prettier, but distinctive. The skill also covers the practical stuff: 150 to 300ms motion timing for micro-interactions, accessibility checks, SVG icons instead of emoji, pairing a display font with a refined body font.

Install:

/plugin marketplace add anthropics/claude-code
/plugin install frontend-design@claude-code-plugins

Honest caveat: Developer Justin Wetch spotted a logical bug in the original SKILL.md — it tells Claude not to "converge across generations," but Claude has no memory of other conversations to converge from. He filed a PR. Wetch also found the skill helps Haiku the most and Opus the least, which makes sense if you think of it as a ceiling effect: smaller models benefit more from explicit creative direction than larger ones.

Why these five matter together

What's interesting about this list isn't any individual skill. It's what they reveal about where Claude Code actually breaks.

Out of the box, the model jumps to code too fast — Superpowers fixes that. Skills break silently after model updates — skill-creator fixes that. Sessions die in 30 minutes from context bloat — context-mode fixes that. Every new session starts cold — claude-mem fixes that. The UI it generates looks like every other AI-built UI on the internet — frontend-design fixes that.

Install all five and Claude Code stops feeling like a fast typist and starts feeling like a teammate who plans, remembers, conserves attention, ships polished interfaces, and tests its own work. That's a meaningfully different tool.

Two of these are official Anthropic releases. Three come from independent developers solving problems they personally hit. That mix is probably the healthiest sign about the ecosystem — the company ships the foundational tooling, the community fills the workflow gaps, and everyone benefits.

A small caveat worth keeping in mind: the plugin world moves fast. Install counts will look different by the time you read this, new skills will have launched, and a few of these capabilities may have been absorbed into Claude Code natively. Treat the list as a snapshot of what's working today, not a permanent verdict.

In today’s rapidly evolving manufacturing landscape, staying competitive requires more than just operational efficiency—it demands the integration of advanced technology and systems to manage, monitor, and control manufacturing processes in real-time. This is where Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) play a pivotal role.

MES is a powerful tool that bridges the gap between enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems and shop floor control systems. It provides manufacturers with detailed insights into production processes, allowing for better decision-making, improved efficiency, and higher product quality.

This article will explore what MES is, how it works, its benefits, and why it’s crucial for modern manufacturing operations.

What is a Manufacturing Execution System (MES)?

A Manufacturing Execution System (MES) is a software solution designed to monitor, track, and control production in real-time. It connects machines, people, and systems on the shop floor to ensure that manufacturing operations are as efficient as possible. MES solutions cover various aspects of the manufacturing process, including scheduling, inventory management, production execution, and quality control.

MES serves as the intermediary between the shop floor and higher-level systems like Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), providing real-time data to help companies optimize their production processes. It captures and analyzes production data, offering insights into performance, bottlenecks, and areas for improvement.

Key Features of MES
